ABOUT PROJECT

The first three sections of the long-distance trail Via Apsyrtides, which connects the northernmost point of the island of Cres (Cape Jablanac) and the town of Cres, together with about 40 kilometers of other historic roads north of Cres, have been completely renovated as part of the VALUE project implemented within the Cross-border cooperation program Interreg Italy – Croatia 2014-2020.
The main goal of the project was to define a new model of territorial development aimed at the integration of culture, nature and tourism through the improvement of cultural and archaeological sites. The specific objectives were to promote sustainable development, promote off-season tourism and valorisation of cultural assets by establishing cultural clusters and archeological parks, designing tourist routes and creating public-private networks for cooperation.

The Town of Cres, as one of the eight project partners, used the project’s funds to restore the historic network of trails, bringing it to a minimum standard of walkabillity. The trails are marked with recognizable markings and enriched with information boards.

This website was also realized through the VALUE project, as well as a number of activities such as the Summer School for the Preservation and Valorisation of the Historical Heritage of the Island of Cres, archaeological laboratories and educational workshops for tourist guides.

The completion of other sections of the long-distance trail Via Apsyrtides located south of the town of Cres was jointly co-financed by the Cres Tourist Board and the Mali Lošinj Tourist Board.

The project has also funded the printing of the map showing all the trails renovated within the project. The map can be downloaded by clicking on the image.
